Most of you reading this are probably frustrated with your current life situation. Frustrated with your job, frustrated with your bills, and frustrated with the whole rat race.
Our whole purpose in life has been trying to get out of the rat race and share our story with other Canadians.
The Position of FU means you are out of the rat race.
Sadly, most Canadians stay in the rat race because it is the easy thing to do.
There is a great scene from the movie Jerry Maguire.
In this scene, Jerry is being let go from his current job, and when leaving, he gives this great speech about how he is going to great things and then asks the crowd, “who’s coming with me?”
One lady speaks up and says, “I can’t, I’m 3 months away from a pay increase”.
And that, my friends, is the exact mentality that holds so many people back. That mentality turns the average person into a little hamster, running in their little hamster wheel, constantly chasing the next pay increase, the next promotion, the next pat on the back from their boss, etc. I like to call these things, the golden handcuffs.
All the while, that pay increase is not even keeping up with inflation and they’re letting opportunities pass them by.
Some of the best advice I ever received was to seek work for what you learn, more than what you earn.
And I have implemented this advice in my everyday life.
I went into insurance to learn sales skills. It just so happens I made money doing it too.
I bought residential real estate to learn the ins and outs of the real estate game. It just so happens that real estate values have gone up dramatically.
I got into build-to-rents to learn the valuable skills of building a home. It just so happens that we turned around and implemented these skills into a new construction company.
Instead of letting fear and security hold us back, we instead seized opportunities knowing that they would be a learning experience. It just so happens they led us closer to the position of FU.
